This image caught me. It follows a theme that jof has been exploring for over a year: Marbles and the interactions that they can create. BUT it is also completely unidentifiable–a non-representational abstraction of colors, textures, movement of lines that lets my eye explore possibilities.
The Marble Experiment began in Portland, OR, Summer of 2008. In a shop window he saw a bowl of exquisite orbs of glass. He bought a handful or two. Soon he was passing them out around the city, leaving them with dinner tips, giving them out to anyone who seemed to need a bit of levity. The reactions of most people has been incredibly touching: A cheerful random gift presented with no expectation and jof’s smile. When he got home from that trip, he found a place to order more marbles online…Rainbow Turtle, ironically located in Portland, OR.
Since that Summer I’m sure jof has given away a thousand marbles…maybe more. Maybe he gave one to you?
